Denier to GPM & GPM to denier calculator
Go from tape denier to the grams per running metre of woven fabric — through mesh and fabric width — or back from a weighed GPM to the denier the loom must be running. Includes the simple tape conversion: grams per metre = denier ÷ 9,000.
Denier → GPM (fabric)
Here the denier is yours and the mesh decides the GSM and GPM. To hold a GPM and see what the mesh does to the denier, use the tool on the right.
GPM → Denier
Denier, GSM and GPM — how they connect
Fabric GSM = denier × (warp + weft mesh) ÷ 228.6
Fabric GPM = GSM × fabric width (m); tubular width = 2 × flat width
Denier from GPM = GPM ÷ width (m) × 228.6 ÷ (warp + weft mesh)
Example: 900 denier, 10 × 10 mesh, 50 cm tubular fabric → GSM 78.7 → GPM 78.7 × 1.00 m = 78.7 g/m. If the scale reads 84 g/m at the same mesh, the tape is running at about 960 denier — the GPM → denier tool tells you that at once.
FAQ
What does 1 denier mean?
One denier is one gram per 9,000 metres. It is the standard unit for PP and HDPE tape linear density in woven sack plants.
Why does my measured GPM differ from the calculated one?
Tape width and thickness tolerance, mesh variation across the loom and moisture all shift the real weight by a few percent. Use the GPM → denier tool to see the effective denier the loom is delivering.
